SNDT Women’s University is the first Women’s University in India as well as in South-East Asia.
The University was established by Bharat Ratana Maharshi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve in 1916 for empowerment of women through education. The motto of the university is, 'An Enlightened Woman is a Source of Infinite Strength'. What started in 1916 with first five women graduating, evolved to get a statutory recognition in 1951 and has been continuing the legacy of its founder by providing education to women in modern as well as traditional disciplines.
For enhancing the quality and up gradation of institutions of higher education, the NAAC proposes that every accredited institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure. The establishment of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) by accredited institutions (after the first cycle) is a major step in pushing long-term quality standards. IQAC in any institution is a significant administrative body that is responsible for all quality matters. It is the prime responsibility of IQAC to initiate, plan and supervise various activities that are necessary to increase the quality of the education imparted in an institution or college. The role of IQAC is in maintaining quality standards in teaching, learning and evaluation and channelise the efforts and measures of the institution towards academic excellence. The IQAC has the potential to become a vehicle for ushering in quality by working out intervention strategies to remove deficiencies and enhance quality.
